GVM UPGRADES FROM OME
In New Zealand it is common that vehicles are loaded to capacity and are often overloaded. This can be potentially dangerous and also illegal if they breach the allocated gross vehicle mass, (GVM) without the correct suspension to suit each individual application.
The GVM is the maximum a vehicle can weigh when fully loaded. Everything you place on or in your vehicle adds to the overall GVM such as fuel, water/chemical tanks, a bull bar, tow bar, recovery gear, the tray body for cab chassis models and even your passengers.
All vehicles have a legal GVM as part of the vehicle manufacturer’s overall Australian Design Rules (ADR) approval. If your vehicle exceeds these limits you could be up for a costly fine, void your insurance conditions and make your vehicle unsafe. To combat these issues, Old Man Emu offers GVM upgrades in line with ADR requirements for a number of new vehicles.
These new vehicles GVM upgrades are only granted by the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport after detailed tests have been carried out by Old Man Emu engineers. They ensure that the increase in a vehicle’s GVM following the fitment of a complete suspension system meets the minimum ADR safety requirements.
Unlike some of their competitors, all OME GVM upgrades are based on the combined front and rear axle loadings, as published by the vehicle manufacturer. This follows sound engineering principles by staying within the tested and proven capabilities that the vehicle manufacturers have established for their axles, thereby maintaining your vehicles’ reliability.
Once the approved OME suspension system and GVM upgrade compliance plates have been fitted to your vehicle by Motortech 4×4 as authorised OME fitters, it can then be registered according to its new increased GVM. This process ensures that your vehicle is GVM legal in New Zealand.
